I do like a multi-functional palette. They’re great for when you’re in a rush, short on space and are also ideal for travel. The Stila Perfect Me, Perfect Hue Palettes were an instant hit when they launched last summer. Created with four skin tones in mind, each one has a selection of flattering shades of colour for cheeks and eyes that will suit a particular skin tone. Each palette contains two blushes and give eyeshadows each in matte, shimmer, and pearl finishes.
I have the Tan/Deep palette which has combination of the following shades:
- Eyeshadows: Imaginative (peach), Brilliant (wheat), Adventurous (copper), Flirty (deep warm brown), Mesmerizing (black)
- Blush: Vibrant (deep peach), Witty (brick red)
First impressions? Hmm I found the shades quite difficult to swatch, they’re not the most pigmented shadows/blushes I’ve tried. The base shadow (Imaginative) was the hardest to swatch, and looked quite chalky, but since the eyeshadows are to be placed on top of this colour, I wasn’t too perturbed by its appearance.
Not too keen on the highlighter shade, it’s too ash for my skin tone, but eyeshadows and blushes are alright. I’ve not worn this palette yet, so these are just my first impressions based on my swatches. Adventurous is a really pretty metallic coppery bronze which was the easiest of all to swatch and the blushes were complimentary. I think Vibrant would look lovely on a summer’s day, I’m a big fan of peach-toned blushes for my complexion and Witty is rich and warm. It’s unlikely I’d use the black as a liner as suggested on the packaging, it wasn’t the easiest to swatch and I prefer liquid liner.
Overall, I’m not bowled over by this palette. It’s a fair effort by Stila, but I think the quality could be better. At a push if I were on a desert island with just this to hand, then I’d make it work, but why settle for what doesn’t make your heart skip a beat!
