Better late than never – Nike have officially launched a plus size range for women.

It’s good to see that they (finally) realise that plenty of people who are over a size 18 would quite like to look fly in their workout gear. Its always baffled me why the major sportswear brands only cater for those on the smaller side – as if only small people want to work out. It makes zero sense and I hope other brands will now follow suit and expand the sizing in their own ranges.

Explaining why they chose to create a plus-size range, Nike said: ‘Nike recognises that women are stronger, bolder and more outspoken than ever.

‘In today’s world, sport is no longer something that she does, it’s who she is. The days where we have to add ‘female’ before ‘athlete’ are over.

‘She is an athlete, period. And having helped fuel this cultural shift, we celebrate these athletes’ diversity, from ethnicity to body shape.’

The range features all kinds of workout-ready clothing, with sports bra, running tights, high-tech hoodies and more. Sports bras will go up to a 38E – although I think there’s room for further improvement in that area.

Influencers Grace Victory and Danielle Vanier have been chosen to front the campaign and they look great. Nike’s plus size line ranges from size XL to 3XL and is available in store and online now.
