I’ve decided that next year I’m going to put more time aside for myself. Running around after an energetic two year old is no easy feat and as joyous as my little cherub is, I’d love the chance to have a few hours of unsolicited pampering – be it in the form of a massage, a facial or a full day at a spa, on a regular basis.

Time is precious, we’re all busy and want the process of planning a little self-care to be as seamless and stress-free as possible. I know only too well how annoying it is trying to make an appointment in the sole ten minute slot I have available to  do so, only to be met by a constant engaged tone! Annoying!

In the run up to Christmas, we’ll be preening ourselves in preparation of planned parties, dinners and festive drinks and being stuck behind a desk, being worked to the bone as deadlines loom, doesn’t make it easy for a gal to arrange her beautifying needs!

Book Your Lifestyle is a fuss free online appointment system which allows you to book treatments at beauty and hair salons located across London. I tested its efficiency out and booked a couple of treatments at Smooth You, a stunning salon located in Dalston, just a stones throw from the overground station and busy high street.

The booking process was a piece of cake. I selected the salon I wanted to visit, chose my treatments and which appointment times suited me and then paid via Paypal (you can pay via debit card too), receiving instant email confirmation.

I received a text message the day before my appointment, reminding me of my treatments, along with the salon contact details.

Smooth You Town Spa is an oasis of calm, which lulls you into a sense of peacefulness the minute you walk through the door. The town spa offers a range of semi-medical treatments, revolutionary tanning equipment that adapts to skin type, a nail parlour and a raft of beauty treatments with products from the Murad – which I’ve been a fan of for a few years now.

I opted for a Murad facial and an express mani as my nails were in dire need of attention. I’d barely sat down when Elena, my therapist came over to greet me. I hate waiting around for my pre-booked treatments to begin, so I was pleased there was no idle waiting around.

As I was taken to my treatment room, Elena gave me a quick verbal tour, drawing my attention to the bathroom, if needed and other treatment rooms.

As I settled down, waiting for Elena to return and begin my facial, I exhaled. I intended to fully enjoy this and completely zoned out. Cassius was at nursery, probably throwing sand everywhere and I was getting giddy at the thought of having a full extraction done!

The Murad Advance Method Facial (currently on offer at £69 from £110) began with a double cleanse using the White Brilliance Clarifying Cleanser. My face was then exfoliated with the AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser. I’ve used this at home for a few years now and it’s a repeat purchase – definitely worth the money! It gets rid of dead skin cells so effectively. Throughout these applications, I had a steam machine blowing hot air on my face, it was quite relaxing at first, but then I asked for it to be turned off as I felt somewhat stifled.

Next up, my skin was toned with both the Hydrating and Clarifying toners and then I had the AHA Rapid Exfoliating Vitamin-C Infusion Mask applied. I really liked this step – unfortunately it’s not for sale to the general public as it’s a professional product, only used in salons. Once that has been removed with hot towels, it was time for my skin to be prepped with the Age-Defence Serum and Essential C-Day SPF30 Moisturiser. Elena finished off with an intense neck and shoulder massage, which was hugely appreciated.

Oh, and before I forget, remember those extractions that I was strangely looking forward to? Well, I won’t be having those done again in a hurry. This was by far the most painful extraction I’ve experienced to date. Still, the results are worth it! Who said beauty was pain-free!

Next up, it was my express manicure. My facial has lasted 90 mins as advertised and I’d opted for an express manicure as I had an important errand to run afterwards, so had planned my treatments to allow myself enough time to make it to central London and back again. My nails were soaked, cuticles pushed back and clipped. My nails were shaped and two coats of my chosen nail colour (the salon stocks Jessica), was expertly applied with a drying top coat and spray to finish off.  As I waited 15 mins to give my nails a chance to dry properly, I was offered a tea of my choice which was a nice touch as I caught up with messages and emails.

If you’re in London, then I highly recommend checking out Book Your Lifestyle if you have any festive beauty treatments planned. I’ve discovered a fantastic salon, in the most unlikely location and a great online booking system which makes life that little bit easier. Book Your Lifestyle are also currently giving away spa, salon and beauty experiences worth £4000 with their daily beauty Christmas advent calendar. Play to win!
